What can we get from a tree?
No trees are ever the same. Over many years timber mills have developed the ability to maximise the value they can extract from each log.
The diagram below shows roughly how redwood trees are used. The logs are sorted and graded according to their quality and the quality of the timber dictates what the timber can be used for.
Once the logs are cut they are X-rayed for impurities.
After the x-raying the logs are sent to the cutting line to be turned into usable battens.
