Whitewood’s source is the Spruce Tree. The Picea Abies family has short single needles and the tree tolerates acidic soils, but does not do well on dry or deficient soils. We source the majority of our whitewood from Sweden and here within the UK. This large evergreen coniferous tree grows to 35–55 m tall and is the most common tree in Sweden.

The wood is generally a yellowish-white. It has a dry density of around 450 kg/m3 (varying with growth conditions) and a green weight of about 600kg/m3.
