There are now less than four weeks to go until the Donaldson Challenge 2011 kicks off its first leg from DTE Ashford!

Our valiant cyclists are currently getting in some final training ready for the gruelling 1,223 mile cycle around the UK via all 23 branches of the Donaldson Group.

Non - Executive Director, Alan Sinclair is working particularly hard, as he prepares to cycle the entire 2,000km route in just three weeks! Alan will be joined for much of the cycle by Non - Executive Director Randolph Murray, who will also be cycling a remarkable 700 miles.

26 brave James Donaldson & Sons employees and friends have signed up to take part in the challenge as a relay, accompanying Alan and Randolph on their journey around the branches; starting at DTE Ashford and finishing at the JDT sawmill in Leven. It should be a very exciting event - please be sure to give Alan, Randolph and the relay teams a big cheer if you see them on their tour around the country!

MGM Timber (Scotland) Ltd is delighted to announce that from 1 April, the Broxburn-based Leader Timber branch will trade as MGM Timber.

Following the purchase of Leader Timber Ltd in November last year, MGM continued to trade the business with its original name to ensure a smooth and undisruptive takeover. MGM now feel the time is right for the business to identify itself as a part of MGM Timber.

David has been working at MGM for the past 19 years, and became Financial Director for the company in 2002.

After 19 years, Ronnie Malcolm, owner of Leader Timber, has decided to sell the business and retire. After taking some careful consideration to ensure the future success of Leader and the people he has worked with over the years, he has decided to sell to MGM Timber.

A successful and well-respected merchant, MGM Timber currently has 12 branches and is the largest independent timber merchant in Scotland. The company is part of the James Donaldson and Sons Group; an independent family owned business celebrating their 150th anniversary this year.

MGM TIMBER acknowledge that more than 20,000 people in the UK embark on a journey to build their own home, spending an average of £70,000 on materials alone.

MGM achieved sales of £29.3m, with a pre tax profit of £721,000, putting the company ahead of all its independent competitors in Scotland, with the net returns even surpassing the performance of many large national competitors.

Turnover has remained steady at £30m throughout the recession, and unlike many businesses, MGM’s branches and employee numbers have increased over the last two years.
