    Customer Questions
    HOW IS MDF MADE?
MDF is created by bonding wood fibres together using a resin adhesive, high pressure, and high temperatures. The wood fibres are often created from breaking down hard or soft wood residuals.  MDF is an engineered wood-based material that commonly comes in sheet form and is very versatile for both machining and woodworking.  Typically, MDF consists of 82% wood fibre, 9% urea-formaldehyde, 1% paraffin wax and 8% water.
What is the purpose of skirting boards?
Skirting boards are primarily used to cover the joint between the floor and wall, providing a clean, decorative finish while protecting walls from scuffs and damage caused by furniture or foot traffic.
Can skirting boards be painted or stained?
Yes, skirting boards can be painted or stained to match your interior decor. MDF skirting boards are usually primed and ready to paint, while wooden skirting can be stained to enhance its natural grain.
    How are skirting boards installed?
Skirting boards can be installed using adhesive, nails, or screws. The method depends on the wall surface and the type of skirting. Mitre joints are typically used for corners, ensuring a seamless finish.
Can white primed MDF mouldings be used in humid environments?
Moisture-resistant white primed MDF mouldings are available and suitable for areas like kitchens or bathrooms, provided they are properly sealed and painted.
Can white primed MDF mouldings be sanded?
Yes, they can be lightly sanded to smooth edges or joints before applying the final coat of paint. However, excessive sanding may remove the primer.
Are white primed MDF mouldings environmentally friendly?
MDF is often made from recycled wood fibres, making it a more sustainable option than solid timber.

    DELIVERY AND RETURNS

MGM have 3 different delivery methods, branch delivery, delivered to order and supplier direct. Each of these options carries different charges and restrictions.

    Branch Delivery

Branch delivery involves MGM delivering goods from their own stock directly to your desired address. MGM Timber operate a delivery service out of all their branches.

We aim to deliver all orders within 1-2 working days in most areas but certain postcodes will result in higher lead times and in some cases increased delivery charges. When shopping online, once your postcode has been added, the basket page will automatically calculate your estimated delivery lead times and charges.

Please contact us before ordering if you are concerned about delivery timescales or have concerns about delivery process e.g. difficult access, weight restrictions. Please note, someone must be at the delivery address to receive the order and all orders are kerbside only!

For information on Click & Collect at your local branch please click here

    What does it cost?

For most areas, our delivery charge is £20 (ex-VAT). If your order is over the value of £300 (ex-VAT) it will qualify for FREE delivery.

For some more remote areas, we have a minimum order value, higher delivery fee and / or free delivery threshold.  We regularly review these and try to keep them as low as possible.

To see the delivery cost for your address, please build your order in the basket and add your postcode.

For trade customer (cash or credit) branch delivery is free. However, if your basket also contains delivered to order or supplier direct products, an additional charge may be applied.

What happens after I place an order?

You will receive an email confirming your order, then your local branch will contact you within one working day to arrange your delivery and agree a specific date.
What happens on the day of the delivery?

Deliveries are to the kerbside ONLY. This means that we cannot come into your house with any product ordered. Please ensure you have the necessary ability and equipment (if required) to move the items into your property or to help unload if necessary.

If your delivery address has any access, vehicle size & weight or time of day access restrictions please let us know as soon as you have placed your order.

For our Terms & Conditions relating to Deliveries please see the section 3 of our Ecommerce Terms & Conditions

Your branch will always contact you to inform you of any changes.

Delivered to order products are only available in the same areas of Scotland covered by branch delivery.
