What is OSB3?

Oriented Strand Board Type 3 (OSB3) is a wood-based structural panel material that is tough, durable, and multifunctional. It really takes OSB to the next level by combining the benefits of regular OSB with the ability to work in humid conditions.

 The commercial designation derives from the engineering classification specified in BS EN 300 for its power in bearing weight with ease despite damp conditions. Here are just some of the examples that we currently offer:

•     9x2400x1200mm OSB3 Board – This tinner board can be used for D.I.Y projects, providing cost-effective, lightweight durability.
•     18x2400x1200mm OSB3 Board – The 18mm board is more heavy duty and a great option for bigger projects such as roof decking.

When Is OSB3 Used?

It is typically used as sheathing in walls, floors, and roof decking.

It excels in many construction areas and is particularly useful for working in humid conditions. One often finds that builders will choose between plywood and OSB in more exotic climates, depending on how humid it is. But with OSB3, you can now get the benefits of OSB with added water resistance.

It may not be waterproof, but it is resistant to humidity and thus preferable to many other sheet materials, especially in humid conditions. 

OSB3 Is Great For The Environment

All boards from MGM Timber are certified. This means that wood can be certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®), signifying that the product complies with the "gold standard" for sustainable forestry.

OSB boards qualify as environmentally friendly products as they are manufactured from wood strands sourced from smaller sized trees that are grown in sustainable forests.
